Baptism
Baptism is the sacrament that frees man from original sin and from personal guilt, that makes him a member of Christ and His Church.
Infant Baptism (English)
Call the Parish Office (Rectory) at 951-8599 or fill out and submit the Baptism Online Registration Form to make arrangements. Parents need to be registered and attend a preparation class before a baptism date can be scheduled. The preparation class is offered once a month and the waiting time of pregnancy is a good time to attend this class. Godparents need to obtain a letter of good standing from their parish and send it to the Parish Office before the baptism, unless the Godparents are currently registered members of Santiago. We require at least one of the Godparents to be a registered, Confirmed, practicing Catholic. The second Godparent has to at least be a baptized Christian Witness, meaning baptized in the Protestant faith. English Baptisms generally occur the first three Sundays of each month at 2:00 pm.

Adult Baptism
Adult converts to Catholicism also receive the sacrament, unless they have already received a Christian baptism. (If there is any doubt about whether an adult has already been baptized, the priest will perform a conditional baptism.) A person can only be baptized once as a Christian—if, say, he was baptized as a Lutheran, he cannot be rebaptized when he converts to Catholicism.
While an adult can be baptized after proper instruction in the Faith, adult baptism normally occurs today as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) and is immediately followed by Confirmation and Communion. For more information on Adult Baptism, please contact Tom Haas at 949-951-1128.
